General Information

Climate

Since Vietnam has different climactic zones: tropical in the north, subtropical in the south… there is no actual "best time" to visit the country. In each of our stops through Vietnam, the weather suits the scenery, you will still be cool when you hike, and warm and sunny on the beach.

Foot and Head

Generally in almost all Asian societies, the head is very important to the soul and its purity, while the feet walk the earth and all that is deposited on it. Raising your feet to head height, putting them on furniture or pointing with them is taken as a deliberate insult.

Religion

Religion in Vietnam is often referred to as a "Triple religion" also referred to as "Tam Giao." TamGio is said to be Confucian, Taoist, and Buddhism all entwined.

Shouting

Never raise your voice to others as they will not react well to it. Even shouting to friends or for taxis will cause shock and worry.

Money

Vietnamese money is referred to as the "Dong." The Dong comes in denominations of 100; 200; 500; 1,000; 2,000; 5,000; 10,000; 20,000; 50,000; and 100,000. One Canadian Dollar is equal to about 13,500 Vietnamese Dong. One American Dollar is equal to about 16,000 Dong.In major towns, US Dollars are readily accepted in markets, hotels and restaurants. If you decide to bring $100 US bills please ensure they are the newest series out, Asia does not accept the 1990 $100 US bill. Traveler's cheques can be changed in major banks in the majority of locations we visit. If you decide to bring travelers cheques it's a good idea for them to be US$ denomination from a well known bank, such as American Express or VISA.
